The Commercial Building Type within an International Market

The 1962 AMP building at Sydney’s Circular Quay heralded a new era. The success of this first Australian ‘skyscraper’ led to the firm designing over 50 Sydney city tower buildings during this period. Success was further demonstrated by the firm’s partnership design of over 100 tall buildings regionally, nationally and internationally. The practice also successfully completed a diverse range of Sydney city and regional projects, including, civic buildings, sporting facilities, hotels, industrial, social housing and retirement living.

With national and international attention on the firm, the partners’ strategic approach to expansion took advantage of new markets for architectural services. The firm formed planning, urban design and interior design groups within the Sydney office and implemented an ambitious ‘Peddle Thorp Partnership’ model of practice in the form of associations and collaboration with architectural practices in Canberra, Brisbane, Melbourne, Darwin, New Zealand, UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong and UAE.
