Newcastle Mater Hospital Redevelopment The second stage included the emergency and ICU departments, medical records, imaging departments, nuclear medicine and office accommodation for hospital administration, allied health and corporate services.
The PTW team was able to rework the concept design of the winning PPP design to create spaces which contributed to both the architectural quality of the hospital and to its social and economic success. A two storey central hall/spine/atrium along which the main public interfaces occur (including the now very profitable café) was introduced as part of the design development. Hospital functions continued to operate during the redevelopment.
